Immense Potential to be unlocked…….
The Indian Pharmaceutical industry, is
geared to expand to nearly $37 billion
by 2012-13 from an estimated $17 billion
in 2007-08, mainly driven by exports,
which are likely to soar at an annual
rate of 21 per cent over this period.
With the API manufacturing opportunity
arising from the huge on-patent drugs
market coupled with the rising
confidence of innovators on Indian
players, India is well placed to garner
a higher share of the regulated
on-patent drug market. With drugs worth
an estimated $137 billion scheduled to
go off-patent in the US and Europe over
the next 5 years, India is poised to
take advantage of the resulting generic
opportunity and strengthen its presence
in the global markets.
India’s potential can be gauged from the
inherent capabilities possessed by
Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers in
terms of advanced chemistry skills,
complex chemical synthesis and its low
cost manufacturing capabilities.
